M.Sc – COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING
About the Programme
M. Sc. in Nursing is a two-year graduate programme meticulously structured to impart in-depth advance knowledge of nursing methodologies and principles. The programme encompasses subjects like Advance Nursing Practice Clinical Specialty and Nursing Management that trains the students to administer the activities of hospitals clinics and assist the staff in carrying out their duties effectively.
M. Sc. in Nursing programme prepares students to work collaboratively evaluate data interpret results think vitally draw logical conclusions and make composite decisions. The curriculum of the programme gives students the opportunities to devise plausible solutions to real-life situations and nursing challenges in an active learning environment.
Under this programme the candidates also learn about the ethical and legal aspects of nursing in the healthcare sector. In addition, the emphasis is placed on imparting insights on the commonalities in a variety of diseases. Aspirants also gain a deep understanding of the relationship between diseases and symptoms that help them in identifying the problem.

Guidelines for submission of Dissertation
Candidates are required to work on a dissertation in the field of their specialty. The schedule of proposal presentation and subsequent presentations will be decided by research committee of the college.
Submission of Dissertation in the University
- Candidate is required to submit the dissertation three months before the final examination of M.Sc. Nursing final year for evaluation and certification.
- The number of pages of dissertation should have minimum 100 pages and maximum 200 pages, this does not include annexures.
- Candidates are required to submit seven copies of dissertation.
Evaluation of Dissertation
- Evaluation of dissertation will be done by the examiner prior to viva voce.
- Duration of viva voce should be of 30 minutes per student.
- The viva voce should be organized before or after the practical examination.
Resubmission of Dissertation
Modalities for award of class
- 50% pass in each of the theory and practical separately
- 50 - 59% second division
- 60 to 74% first division
- 75% and above is distinction
Admission Criteria
Admission in a MSc. Nursing Programme will be granted as per the guidelines of the Indian Nursing Council, Delhi.
Education
- Candidate should have a minimum educational qualification of Basic B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. Nursing (Hon)/Post Basic B.Sc.
- Nursing degree from an institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council New Delhi and from Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University Jabalpur or any other University accepted as an equivalent.
- Candidates should have minimum 55 % marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination, 5% relaxation of marks is given for ST/SC candidates.
Experience
- Candidate should have minimum 1 year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing/ B.Sc. Nursing (Hon) in a hospital or teaching institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council, school or college of Nursing, MPW/ANM Training Centre, or a Community Health Centre.
- Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing candidates must have 1 year of experience prior or after PB B.Sc at a Nursing degree in a hospital or teaching institution recognized by Indian Nursing Council, School or College of Nursing, MPW/ANM Training Centre, or a Community Health Centre.
Registration
Candidate should have a registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife, (In lieu of RM for male candidate) from any State Nursing Council and his/her registration should be duly renewed.

- Attested copy of senior secondary certificate exam (10+2) or old Higher Secondary School certificate (10+1)
- Birth certificate issued by a competent authority such as magistrate etc. (incase date of birth is not mentioned in school marksheet)
- Attested copies of all marksheets of B.Sc Nursing examination (all Four years/all semester) copy of transcript in this regard will not be entertained
- Attested true copy of B.Sc. Nursing degree
- Attested copy of RN, RM (in lieu of RM for male) duly renewed
- Attested copies of all experience certificates
- Course completion/college leaving certificate

- Relieving letter from previous institution

Eligibility from the University
- Before seeking admission, candidates must obtain an eligibility certificate from the University by remitting the prescribed fee and form
- Admission will be provisional till the University issues an eligibility certificate
- The college will not be responsible if University rejects form

Note:
- The candidate can choose any one branch for study
- A candidate who has chosen Medical Surgical branch can choose any one optional subject or the college can take a decision in accordance with the availability of clinical area
- Right is reserved with the college authority in allotting specialization and optional subjects; however, allotment of branch will be done as per the candidates experience in the related clinical area
- Branches of specializations may be changed or withdrawn as per instruction of Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi, students cannot make any claim in this regard
Instruction for Examination
- Minimum pass marks shall be 50% in each of the theory and practical exams
- Candidates who fail in the internal assessment are not eligible to appear for the University examination
- Internal marks will be based on unit test, theoretical activities, records and reports of educational activities, practical activities, assignments, logbook, day-to-day performance, absenteeism and result of the Pre-University examination
- Candidates have to pass in internal or external exam separately in each theory and practical exam. If a candidate fails in either the theory or practical paper, he/she has to reappear for both the exam theory and practical
- All practical examinations will be held in respective clinical areas
- A candidate is accorded with five (5) marks grace if she/he fails in main examination and only one (1) grace mark in supplementary examination. No distribution of grace marks can be done among subjects.
- Maximum number of attempts per subject is (3) inclusive of the first attempt.
- The maximum period to complete the course successfully must not exceed four (4) years from the date of admission
Provision for Supplementary Examinations
- If a candidate fails in one subject, he / she will be a given chance to appear in the mid-term supplementary examination which is held in August / September or as per the University schedule.
- No candidate is allowed to appear in M.Sc. Nursing II year examination unless the candidate has passed all subjects of the first-year examination. However, candidate may be allowed to study the course of M.Sc. Nursing II year.
- If a candidate fails in more than one subject she/he has to reappear in all theory and practical examinations.
Eligibility for Awarding Master’s Degree
The candidate will be awarded the master’s degree in nursing when he/she successfully completes the M.Sc. nursing first year and second year examination, including clearance of the dissertation.
Attendance
- Candidates shall not be permitted to appear in the examination until they complete 80% attendance in theory and 100% attendance in practical (clinical) irrespective of any kind of absence.
- Absence from college or clinical practice without prior notice will not be considered as leave and students are required to make up those days.
Vacation
- The head of the institution (Principal) shall declare four (4) weeks’ vacation in an academic year according to the academic calendar (master plan) of the institution.
- Vacation can be given for data collection or any other educational activity/workshop as per the order of the Principal.
